With a major gaming event titled “GamesCom” going on in Germany this week it is only fitting that some big news would be coming out over the next few days with some of the big titles. Sure enough today DICE released an intense multiplayer gameplay trailer showing a heavy vehicle based map called “Caspian Border”. The trailer shows a lot of great gameplay with some awesome vehicle action – including the much anticipated jets that the Battlefield community has been raving about – along with some infantry combat here and there. With the video release also comes a confirmation that Battlefield 3 servers will be supporting 64 players in multiplayer. With the looks of the video and the ability to be playing with 64 players; it really does sound like a classic Battlefield game. Check out the trailer below if you haven’t already.

Now sure this is a COD website but I am a PC gamer and if you claim to be a PC gamer and watching that video didn’t get your adrenaline flowing even just a little bit then you really need to hit the power button on the computer and go pick up your console controller. I am no die hard Battlefield player by any means but I did enjoy some time in Battlefield 1942 before getting into Call of Duty. Then a few years later when COD:MW2 was plagued with IWnet I decided not to buy it and spent close to a year playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and it proved to be hours and hours of good fun. However, even though Battlefield:BC2 was and still can be fun it doesn’t satisfy my playing style like COD does. Reason being: they are totally different games. Although Battlefield:BC2 was shrunk down and targeted more towards the COD fans and COD playing style – it is still a totally different more objective driven game. I am really sick of seeing the comparing back and forth in these last weeks as the heat picks up between the BF3 and COD:MW3 release. They are different games. Period. One is not better than the other because they are not on the same playing field. Now don’t get me wrong; I would love to see bigger more diverse maps in COD with the option of having vehicles on some maps (much like United Offensive) and I would definitely love to see COD:MW3 on a shiny new awesome looking engine running DirectX 11 and involve some sort of destructibility features but I am not going to say that BF3 is a better game because it has those features. COD is an arcade shooter that is based on fast intense gun to gun battles in a relatively small to medium scale “map”. Battlefield is based on more realism and flat out war on an actual battlefield in a large scale territory. Yes they are both FPS games but other than that they are each in a class of their own. The communities ON BOTH SIDES need to quit the school girl bickering over which game is better and just enjoy the last quarter of 2011 with an awesome bunch of game releases.

Yea, this confirms a “not playing” for me. I forced myself to keep playing open BETA (the second BETA open to everyone) last night just thinking that it was new and I had to get used to it – but I can’t. This is my opinion but I think it is ridiculously horrible. A little better than the first BETA but still horrible.

The environment is pretty and well detailed but there are so many trip hazards that just seem to hang me up and why is it so difficult to jump onto objects that are allowed to be jumped on – and then once on top of objects die from a falling death of only jumping down 6 feet. The player avatar movement is still garbage and the 2 ton grenades and 2 ton sandbags around my ankles are just pathetic. Still no lean and no prone.

The main reason it is impossible for me to enjoy this game is because the game is too Hardcore; it is 1 kill and then multiple deaths. It’s like the whole game is Hardcore and there is no option for Softcore – or a normal style of game play. There was a tremendous amount of camping in the games I played last night and for the type of player that I am always rushing objectives hard I that got me KDRs of 34/22, 26/19, 25/36 and so on. It’s not enjoyable to play the game when you are forced to camp and hide and move inch by inch. Sure I like realism but I also want to freedom to be able to play the game as I would any other game and have the option of different playing styles and not being penalized.

If this is the competition for COD:Black Ops I feel it is going to lose easily. I know people are getting tired of the same old maps in Battlefield BC2 so some players might venture away from BC2 to the new MOH but I wonder how long people will play it. Now depending on what happens with BC2:Vietnam that could be a bit a different story. If bugs from BC2 get fixed for BC2:Vietnam then it might hold some of the COD players that left from COD:MW2 but as for this COD player – I will stick it out in BC2 until COD:Black Ops releases. I do enjoy BC2 but my dedication belongs to COD. I have always enjoyed the MOH series for great single player game play but feeling shafted by MOH:Pacific Assault and then even worse with MOH:Airborne and now the icing on the cake that is the MOH Reboot – the MOH series is officially DEAD to me. We will just have to wait a little while longer and see what COD:Black Ops will bring to the table.

Well the time is here. The game that so many put their hope in to “kill” COD:MW2 or at least give them something else to play instead of COD:MW2 or just play because they are already sick of the sub-par COD:MW2. Today marks the start of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 public BETA and if you pre-ordered your game through a number of different websites then you should have been eligible for a public BETA key to play the game. I was a little late on getting up-to-date on all of the BETA info so I actually pre-ordered through GameStop yesterday (yes, the day of the BETA!) but surprisingly I received my BETA key late last night from GameStop and during the wait I manged to find a good torrent link to download the whopping 1.42GB installer so everything was ready for my normal half day of work on Fridays.

I got home just after noon today; grabbed some lunch and by 2:00PM I had BC2 installed and running. Wow. Totally not what I was expecting and going into a Battlefield game trying to play it like a Call of Duty game A) does not work very well, B) is not very fun and C) gets you killed A LOT. I haven’t played a Battlefield game since Battlefield 1942 and that was quite a while ago so as you can imagine I didn’t do very well first time around. Coming out of a few hours of game play tonight I found the game to be pretty decent in terms of actual fluid game play and definitely excellent in terms of graphics (although with the BETA there seems to be some minor performance issues) but it was rough. There were some frustrating times had since I have been playing COD games for nearly 7 years straight and this is a totally different game. I will need some more time and testing but the game really does look promising. Is it enough to pull me away from COD? Well that is yet to be known but I am anxious to get some more game play time in over the next few days.
