Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Demo has been released!

Visit callofduty.com for a broad list of sites to get the demo off of or just head on over to fileplanet.com and jump in line. You can also download it staight from CODV HERE, but you will stay around 100kb/s. The demo is pretty large at 1.4GB.

Once again I took a set of screenshots for those out there that wish to see them or for whatever other reason there is to look at awesome screenshots of an excellent soon to be released game.

COD4:MW Demo Screenshots

I had some rather large doubts when I first heard that COD4 was not going to be WWII based but even though COD4:MW takes a different path off of the World War II path into modern warfare I think this game looks very good and plays very well; and this is coming from a pretty die hard WWII FPS gamer.

The game is packed full of action happening everywhere around leaving you to always be checking around the environement near you. Sometimes it is actually hard to stop and look around to enjoy the beauty of all the surroundings because of getting pushed into the next round of a firefight.

The amount of detail that is in the game is just wonderful with so many little things around to catch your eye. Very nice vegetation, lighting and nice breakable objects like windows and bottles and cars that can be shot until they catch on fire and eventually explode to numeros objects laying around that can be moved by being shot or pushed fro the explosions.

The AI seemed rather unpredictable which is quite different from COD2 where they were very predictable. You encounter battle from all different angles and get attacked by quite a few different enemies and weapons.

Weapons are all quite interesting and it is hard to compare them because of COD always being in the mix with WWII based weapons. Even for the demo you get to experience quite a few different weapons and they all seem pretty decent. One thing that I still heavily dislike is the way grenades are used. COD4:MW has the same method that COD2 did and it just isn't smooth throwing grenades. COD & COD:UO method of actually selecting the grenade weapon and then using it makes control so much better. In COD4:MW & COD2 hitting a key and then holding the key to prime the grenade is rediculously awkward when trying to move and actually target where you want to throw it.

All in all I really enjoyed the demo and I am rather excited about playing the full game when it is released. The big question is, what will multiplayer be like with this entirely new type of Call of Duty game? I am still having quite a few doubts about it because of how drawn into COD:UO I still am and all because of the liquid smooth gameplay. I don't know if COD4:MW will have the liquid smooth gameplay.

Call of Duty 2 is out now!

I tried getting my copy at my local Walmart on the 26th, but it didn't come in so I just went back on the 27th and got it! My past experiences preordering games seemed pretty pointless since I could always get it the very first or second day it was released at a local store.

So far I only have about three hours of gameplay into it on Hardend difficulty, and I have a lot of mixed feelings about the game. It still somewhat feels like COD, but big changes like the grenade/smoke grendade system, health system, sprinting, etc. make it feel like an entirely new game. I think the most upsetting thing about the game is the fact that it almost feels like it was originally created soley for the XBOX360 and then ported to the PC as a "bonus". The mixed up controls somewhat portray the game should be on a console (because no FPS game controls well on a console) and the point that there is no Quicksave and Quickload feature make it look even more like a console game. A game should not be released for both the PC and consoles. I just isn't right. Consoles play console games, and PCs play the better PC games. Whoever came up with the idea that the console should act like a PC is a moron. A console is a console and a PC is a PC.

I never start MP without finishing SP first, so my view of the MP portion will come soon. Overall, the game seems very heavily scripted leaving very little to be done on my own. There are always teammates waiting at the right door or tunnel to guide me in the direction I need to go leaving very little doubt to make me think if I am doing the right thing or not. This really takes the drama and involvlement out of the game. I would rather mess up a few times and go the wrong direction finding some things out for myself rather then have my hand held through the entire game.

So far the enemy AI dosen't seem to bad with reactions and actions and they even tend to surprise me every now and then with a charging bash or unexpected grenade returned to me. I enjoy the new screams, moans and groans that happen throughout the levels and especially like the dying act that some germans do, pulling out a pistol at the end to still try and kill me. On the otherhand my AI teammates tend to walk into a lot of my grenades and yell the same commands over and over at me which tends to get on my nerves. With COD2 the grenade indicator feature was introduced that gives me a warning of grenades. Well why don't my teammates have the same feature? Usually they don't even move when I throw a grenade and other times they will rush in when I do. Its just bad teamwork.

The one thing that I have enjoyed greatly so far is all the weapons. I think the weapons that I have used so far have been greatly improved or have been great additions. I don't care much for the new sniping method of having to hold your breath for true accuracy, but at least it isn't totally necesary. I think the changes with the automatic weapons, specificaly the Thompson, will reduce a lot of the "run-n-gun" tactics that so many people use. The rifles, which are my favorite, actually seem to have the power of a rifle now. The changes made to the Russian Tokarev SVT-40 and the German Gewehr 43 are great giving much better control of the gun and feeling much more solid still being a semi-automatic. Some new guns of all different tastes let you choose what you want to use when you want to use it all the way through the SP missions.

I am not going to say that I don't like the game, but there are a lot of things that seem to be missing or have been changed for the worse. From what I remember playing, I do think that I enjoyed playing United Offensive much more from the start. I am not sure what it is about COD2, but it just dosen't leave that feeling of excitedness and wanting more at the end of a mission. I will see what happens as I progress through the rest of the game and then try out MP.

Call of Duty 2 Multi Player Preview

Through some numerous websites and forums I managed to collect a few of the first COD2 Multi Player screenshots with Infinity Ward and Activision employees testing out the gameplay. A few of the maps you will notice because they are some original COD maps with a new look and feel. Notably Brecourt, Carentan, Dawnville and Railyard. You will also see some screenshots for what looks like three other new maps and then finally screenshots of the MP weapon selection for American and German. We got to see a few of the weapons in the SP Demo, and in these screens you will see a few more like the springfield and the what looks to be a newly deployable BAR. And if you are wondering what the Grease Gun and the M1897 Trench Gun is then check out this and this.

As of now the release date is still set for Wednesday October 26th.

Call of Duty 2 Demo has been released!

I took a set of screenshots of the demo while I played through just for the eye candy factor. You can check them out below.

COD2 Demo Screenshots

Just to highlight a few things, the demo of COD2 has taken away a few features that UO has brought us and introduces a few new features into COD. UO features taken away include the beloved grenade priming and the ability to sprint. The process of throwing grenades has also been changed a bit which I believe makes it much harder to use grenades effectivly. A new "grenade warning system" is also added to the game that will display a grendade icon with an arrow on the HUD indicating that there is the danger of a grenade nearby. Another big feature that COD2 includes is a new health system. The new health system is not really based on health points, but more along the lines of "recovering when you are injured". When you get injured your signs will vary from blurred vision, heavy breathing and heart palpatations. When these signs occur you need to find cover and take it easy for a short period of time to recooperate and then get back into battle. Another small change to note would be in the weaponry. You can no longer carry a pistol, a primary weapon and a secondary weapon along with your grendes and smoke grenades. Instead it is now reduced down to a primary and a secondary weapon with the ability to pick up a pistol replacing either the primary or secondary weapon.

The AI in the Single Player mission included seems more responsive to the actions that you take. For example, if you throw a grenade at an enemy he will not just stand still and be killed. The individual may yell a warning to his allies and take cover or he might pick up the grenade and throw it back at you. Overall they seem more "knowledgeable" about the surroundings and what is going on which should make gameplay a little more unpredictable.

Since this was only a Single Player demo it is hard to say what the Multi Player will be like. Hopefully we will get to see that in the near future with a Multi Player demo release.
